Ronan is a sculpture from Achill Island off the west coast of Ireland. He draws great inspiration from his windswept island home - the flora, the fauna, and the rugged coastline.
Ronan has a unique process for creation. The aim isn’t to convey an idea or any direct concept, the chalk scratchings on his bench create the gem of an idea for a piece. This then leads to steel being welded together then, using a grinder, a form is ‘carved’ from the mass of steel. This is an arduous process, but it produces beautifully rugged results, which have their own organically formed intrinsic meaning for those who choose to see it.
